Carol Ito is a journalist, comic book artist and illustrator who loves telling stories using graphic narratives. She has been working with comic books and comics journalism since 2014 and has published in several media outlets, in different formats and proposals.
Specialist in comics journalism, she has collaborated with outlets such as Revista Piauí, Agência Pública, Revista Trip, Revista Morel, among others, with emphasis on topics involving human rights and women's rights.
She is the author of the comics “Whole weighs more than half” (ed. nVersos, 2023), “Siriricas Tristes and others misfortunes” (ed. Veneta, 2023) and co-author of “Boy Dodói: real and illustrated stories about toxic masculinity” (ed. Bebel Books, 2023).
She has been publishing humor comic strips and cartoons since 2020 as the author of the column "Novo Anormal", for Tpm Magazine. In the series, she usually addresses everyday topics, such as mental health, female sexuality, affections, body and work, always evoking critical reflection from her readers.
She taught dozens of workshops and comics courses in cultural facilities, such as Sesc, Caixa Cultural, Centro de Artes da Maré, Biblioteca São Paulo and Biblioteca Villa-Lobos.
She has also collaborated with comics for brands such as Adidas Brasil, Semper Livre, Kindle Brasil and O Boticário.
Awards
In 2022, she won the Vladimir Herzog Award for Amnesty and Human Rights, one of the biggest journalism awards in Brazil, in the "Art" category, for the comic report "Three Women of Craco" , published in Piauí Magazine, in which she investigated the problems faced by cis and transgender women in Cracolândia (São Paulo) during the pandemic.
In the same year, she was nominated on the Forbes Under 30 list, in the “Literature and visual arts” category for her work with comics in the press.
Nominated for the HQMIX and Angelo Agostini trophies as best cartoonist.
