In an unprecedented initiative, the publisher Skript launches an essential book for those passionate about the ninth art: Women & Comics. There are comics, interviews and articles with more than 500 pages and 120 guests, organized by Dani Marino and Laluna Machado. The work is a celebration of women in this universe. For decades, comic books have been stigmatized. Phrases such as “it’s a child’s thing”, “it’s not art” and “it’s a boy’s reading”, were repeated so much that, for some, they achieved the false status of truth. But these phrases do not portray reality. Comics are one of the most complex forms of art and can be enjoyed by children and adults, boys and girls, men and women. Just like comics, Women were also stigmatized. However, there is a process of change taking place. This work seeks to celebrate the new reality. After all, as Elisa Lucinda said: “I know we can’t change the beginning, but, if we want, we can change the ending!” Like an orchestra that brings together several instrumentalists to, in unison, make this meeting something even more beautiful, the work MULHERES & QUADRINHOS brings together research texts, interviews, stories and comics, written and drawn by women. However, this will not be exclusive material for them. It is a publication for all people who love the Ninth Art.
